Sorting my many journals as I rummage through, well, all the stuff of my life, finding a sense of organization.

Grateful for a life so fully lived.

I guess I kinda feel vulnerable sharing about how I think and feel…
-and I feel liberation in expressing it -and it’s not the whole story, just a season in life

Was catching this song just now and wanted to share its medicine

Perspective
We were all made different
How amazing is that?
Like… really…

How often do you wish someone could see through your eyes
How often I wish I could see
Really see
Not just see but feel
Through the other
Do others long for that too? Maybe some of us.
It’s a visceral depth

I want to inhabit a space in my mind where I have a sense of known self and hold a healthy respect for all I do not yet
And appreciate that divinity
In others

I don’t want to sway anyone to my sight
But the grace that comes from being seen, with compassion and curiosity is like a deep breath of meadow air
It gets lifeforce to the blood

I don’t want anyone trying to sway me
Lordy knows the airways are too full of that…
And I have a bullshit radar when I know something isn’t my own truth

I want to believe there is a world where middle ground that is truly in integrity is a foundation
Respectful curiosity
Not chocked by fear
But moved the fear in a dance to find its hidden medicine
Can I live in that world?
Let’s try it!

This song is pretty tender. It’s about that feeling of last hope… “are we gonna make it through this?” touches on what we might label our “ugly shadows” the “haunted habits” we carry that make loving complicated…

I want to say, enjoy! Hah, but maybe listening to it will make you feel sad for me, maybe it will stir memories for you, maybe… I dunno.

I will say, I’m grateful that I have music as a tool to move the energy. That I have words to give dialogue to the things I feel. That I can give vibration through my voice to these energies to keep things moving so that I’m not stuck. I can listen back and have compassion for myself, the other and the journey. I can celebrate the growth since the conception of this captured moment.

I’ll just keep feeling, and singing. Whatever it is I squeeze that’s real from this soul of mine.

Venus is in Retrograde, so what better time to have an embodied retrospect of the heart 💕 it’s happening anyways, so let’s get intentional!

I’ll be sharing some of my most vulnerable songs… scary…
It is totally terrifying and cathartic to share my music, but especially songs that were birthed out of heart wounds.

I hope to see you at Tattered Cover Bookstore on Denver, CO on Saturday March 15! Ticket link is in the bio ✨🫶

I bit more on reflections of the heart. I had a really deep morning pages writing today. I found myself back in high school revisiting the onslaught of hurts, disappointments, betrayal and abandonment… I found myself crying, then holding myself. Where do I go from here? I wrote to my younger self what she needed to hear. “I’m sorry your world was so unstable, sorry there wasn’t more support that was actually helpful, I’m sorry the ways your innocence was stolen and your heart began to carrying weights that weren’t yours, I’m sorry you weren’t guided towards greater self respect, I’m sorry your longing for love lead you to holding on to relationships that were toxic and that no one was there to stand up for you, I’m sorry you were so alone, I’m sorry there wasn’t a model for how to trust, I’m sorry…”

We carry the stories of our life inside us. They shape us. All the heart break of my early life has shaped my relationship to my heart today. Trust doesn’t come easy… it’s easy to find the trauma trigger set off.

It’s our awakening to the impact of the past on the present that invites us to open BOTH our eyes. The one made for me and the one I choose consciously with embodied choice!
I heard this quote the other day “I’m not broken, I’m just not finished!”
I love it! It’s the little REFRAMES we make everyday that change how we can relate to our unfolding.

Be awake to your biography
Spends some time reparenting your
Past selves, giving them some love!
And stay awake to the frame you’re looking through.
There’s a time to cry, dance, and time to safely express all the grief anger and sadness.
You are the author
And you’re NOT alone (that’s an important one for me to remember, little miss independent…)

Imagination is the magic of life!

The moments I take to play with my children are some of the most sweet and present experiences I have.

We co-created this healing alter. It had magic for all of us. It was playful and had a seriousness to it as well. It actually became a place of intentional healing in our home that day.
Who isn’t in need of a little healing? Laying down our burdens? Asking for restoration?

We actually placed our wedding rings on it, with the intention of returning the power of our commitment and asking by for help.

The sweetest was how we could cocreate with our kids in a woven way that also held different meanings for us all. They were playing! I was too, and healing.

Don’t underestimate the power of slowing down and getting on your kids level to play, it can have healing for you! It does for me!

We co-created this healing alter. It had magic for all of us. It was playful and had a seriousness to it as well. It actually became a place of intentional healing in our home that day.
Who isn’t in need of a little healing? Laying down our burdens? Asking for restoration?

We actually placed our wedding rings on it, with the intention of returning the power of our commitment and asking by for help.

The sweetest was how we could cocreate with our kids in a woven way that also held different meanings for us all. They were playing! I was too, and healing.

Don’t underestimate the power of slowing down and getting on your kids level to play, it can have healing for you! It does for me!

A truth that I/we are all so darn lovable, really. Worthy of the joys and benifit of love. We have to let ourselves believe it though and lean in. Be kind in our minds! May you fall in love with yourself this valentines! Reclaim the innocence of love, the dancer, so juicy and embodied in the intimacy of just being alive!

Sing what you are calling in!
One of the ways I play with embodying orienting towards the light!

This little riff came to me a couple weeks ago in Kauai when I was practicing regulating my nervous system. I’m pretty sure it was a parenting upset… It helped me calm down, and give breath and life to this message I’m learning. I’ve made myself a wearable reminder bracelet that says “Calm and Kind” and I have another the says “Breathe” (and lots more!) For me it makes all the difference to fill my world with reminders of the healthy and vibrant person I’m always growing into, and loving myself right now!
“Keep it calm, Keep it kind” I hear the mantra in my head and sing it as a gentle reminder moving through my days — parenting, partnering, and in relationship with myself.
“One Breath at a time” Breathing 4 counts in and 4 counts out was taught to me as a tool by a coach years ago, and it really works. Apparently it’s taught to Navy Seals to help them calm themselves in the field. Lordy knows the day to day can feel like it is filled with little battles… let us keep breathing.

What could you use a little more of right now, framed in the positive? What does it feel like if you say it out loud? What if you sing it? Where do you feel it in your body if you let yourself move with the words and play a bit?

“Momma”
This is a song I wrote pulling myself out a dark place a few years ago. It’s about healing ancestral trauma. When I sing “It’s a Lie” I am claiming that I no longer choose to believe that this passed down energy has to live through me, that it’s just who I am and that I can’t do anything about it. It was really empowering medicine for me to write this song and I sing it when I need that reminder that I’m not going to down certain roads any more because I have the power of choice and I have a badass tool kit to keep me on track with what is a higher truth!

Last week in my Threshold course with Melissa Michaels we danced Mother, and this song came back up for me witnessing the grief many of us carry around our mother wounds.
It’s so humbling to be a mother myself now. I feel so much compassion for my own mother and her mother and the lineage behind me. It’s my deepest hope to change certain stories so that they don’t get passed down to my children and so forth. And I feel so much compassion for myself. I don’t get it “right” everyday. But I will never give up!

As I got to the garden today my friend Shannon found me and howled the melody of the howls in my song “Returning”! It made my day, I feel this sweet affirmation that I am exactly where I am meant to be in my story ❤️

I write this from the car in Virginia. I’ve just visited with my grandparents in an old folks home, haven’t seen them in almost 5 years now. They got to meet my daughter Akela for the first time.
GP has Alzheimer’s, and had to ask my aunt who we were, but he was jovial and sweet as I showed him picks of Hobbiton in New Zealand. He remarked that my children’s voices were like music with his eyes closed and that they were beautiful and dainty.
Nanny’s head was on the table, napping, when we came into the cafe room. It took some time for her to wake up, and once she did she, she did her best to follow conversation and communicate. Words and thoughts come and go, get jumbled for her. My aunt says “she knows she is losing her mind, and that is really hard for her…” I can only imagine….
She smiled with me and the girls and we had nice small talk.

I went out of sight, overcome with feeling, crying my aunt found me and held me. I felt sadness, grief, fear.

We are now headed to Maryland and will be celebrating Joel’s grandpa’s 98th birthday tomorrow!

I’m tender. The seasons of life are beautiful and terrifying. And I think that’s the point I’m sharing with this song.

It’s a gift to be alive, it’s full of wonder and pain, it doesn’t always make sense, yet it is absolutely divine.

I’m so grateful to be alive. I’m so grateful for my ancestors who’s blood and memory I carry in me. For my elders, losing their minds at the thresholds of the veil. For my parents who raised and loved me. For this body I inhabit and the wild patterns and programs running through it. For my children, still so innocent welcoming me into their wonder and inspiring me to make new choices and heal my lineage. For the next seven generations and beyond.

And I’m grateful to you soul brothers and sisters, my humbling and inspiring mirrors.

I wrote this song sitting by the ocean after I found out a friend had gone into a coma.

We have RIGHT NOW! BE PRESENT! Be in the gift that is!
